In 2019, Abu Dhabi is to host the Special Olympics World Games 2019, the largest humanitarian sporting event ever to be held for the first time in the MENA region. The Special Olympics World Games will bring together 7,500 athletes from more than 190 countries. This global event reiterates the UAE’s commitment and dedication in integrating people of determination into the community, while raising awareness and countering perceptions. The short film “DetermiNATION”, focuses on the inspiring stories of People of Determination residing in Abu Dhabi; from a young student to a gold medalist athlete, while shedding light on ways to continue the journey of inclusion after the Games. It illuminates on the struggles and triumphs of these individuals, as well as on initiatives stemmed from a long-term vision in the shaping of a better, more inclusive society. Sharifa Yateem, the first Emirati to become a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst specialized in autism, acts as narrator throughout. “DetermiNation” was developed by Mubadala Investment Company, in partnership with Special Olympics World Games 2019.
